This Year's Model Updates:

For 2004, the Grand Cherokee gets a factory-installed DVD navigation system integrated into the radio. Columbia, Freedom and Special Edition trims are also new for 2004. All of these models incorporate subtle cosmetic touches and equipment upgrades. Additionally, each Columbia Edition Jeep comes with a complimentary Columbia parka.

Pros:
  • Powerful 4.7-liter V8, all-terrain capability, roomy comfort for four.
Cons:
  • Noisy and unrefined, questionable reliability, trucklike on-road handling.

Well, what can I say. I should have bought a beamer. This thing has plenty of power and really sucks the fuel right out of the pump when I pull up. The ride is real busy and Im only hoping that I will adjust with time. I owned a S-10 blazer for years. I hate to say it but the blazer was less expensive to operate and road better. I only hope I learn to enjoy the ride

So far, this Jeep has performed fairly well. The only problem Ive had is that I bought the 4.0L and really wish Id have gotten the 4.7L for the extra money. The 4.0 gets about 13 mpg for me and Im sure the V8 could not get much worse, plus the power would be better. The 4.0L is a bit sluggish but has performed okay when offroad.

I bought my Grand Cherokee brand new in the summer of 04 and I am pretty pleased with it. Have had 2 minor problems:transmission leak at 8000 miles and the battery exploded at about 19,000 miles. No one knew why but it was replaced for free under warranty. Comfortable inside and looks good on the outside. Could use a bit more rear leg room and not sure why but I keep getting random dents on the tailgate and have noticed other GCs with similar dents as well-not sure if that is common or not. Will be getting a new car within a year but it wont be a new Grand Cherokee. Would definitely keep the 04 over the new style. Fuel economy isnt that bad for an SUV-gets better mpg than my moms Liberty.

Only have 20000 kilometers so far and am satisfied with the vehicle. the overland is distinctive and is easily identified from the ordinary Grand Cheroke.

My wife and I purchased our GC LTD new and have generally enjoyed it. It has a nice smooth ride, and with the 4.7L V- 8, accelerates very quickly. My wife drives mainly in town and averages 14MPG, though on longer trips we have averaged as high as 23 MPG. We have had some recurrent problems, such as with window seals shrinking and front brake rotor problems. Jeep replaced the front brakes a couple of years ago under recall and have had no problems since, including no brake dust! We also had a heated seat burn through, but with some fighting Jeep repaired the seat. Overall, I would recommend the Grand Cherokee.

  • Not your moms SUV - 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Ive had my 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee for 5 months now. It replaced my 95 Jeep with 185,000 miles and still running strong. This is my third Jeep; my only complaint is the interior plastic is not a good as it should be on a $31,000 SUV. Ride comfort is a little bumpy but acceptable. If you dont intend to take drive off road you may want to look at a Toyota or Honda instead. Off road nothing is better than a Jeep 4x4. With good set of A/T tires, Grand Cherokees can follow a Wrangler Rubicon almost anywhere except extreme rock crawling. You will probably be the limiting factor in where you attempt to take it. Window regulator broke -- dealer repaired so it cost $0.

  • My Third and Last Jeep - 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee

My 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited is my third jeep in thirty five years. I am in my fifties and I am an avid surf fisherman. I use my 4x4 vehicles extensively on the beach in Hatteras N.C. This vehicle has done wonderfully in the sand on Cape Point. It is one of the most comfortable SUVs Ive ever owned. Unfortunately build quality has been a disappointment. Window fell down inside of the door. I am also having a continual problems with the heat and air conditioning system. The dash has been removed twice for a faulty flapper door. Very poor design with plastic parts that break. Hard to explain to wife why no A/C during our last trip to Outer Banks. Chrome peeled off of two Jeep Rims.

I bought my Jeep after looking at a Ford Explorer and Expedition. Overall I really was looking for a more compact look but yet still a stylish look with lots of features and Jeep won. I love my Jeep it is a beautiful color (pewter) with Slate interior with oh yes a sunroof, it won my heart.

I purchased my vehicle brand new. And with only having 23,000 miles on it now little things are starting to go wrong for instance the rotors are supposedly bad and are not covered on the basic warranty i hope that this is not a sign for things to come.
